Optimising for AI Overviews: how content gets pulled in
AI Overviews are the AI-generated summaries that increasingly sit at the top of Google’s results, answering a query and citing a handful of sources. Being one of those cited sources is a new prize, and it rewards a particular kind of clear, trustworthy content.

What AI Overviews are
An AI Overview is a synthesised answer that appears above the ordinary results for many queries, drawing on multiple web sources and linking to some of them. It aims to answer the searcher directly, which changes how, and whether, people click through.
For a publisher this is double-edged. Being cited in the overview brings visibility and can drive qualified clicks, but the summary may also satisfy the query without a click at all. Understanding which queries trigger overviews helps you judge where the opportunity is.
How content gets selected
Overviews tend to draw on pages that answer the underlying question clearly and are backed by evident authority. Content that states a direct answer, supports it with specifics, and comes from a source with topical credibility is more likely to be pulled in.
The mechanics reward the same habits as answer engine optimisation: question-shaped headings, self-contained answers near the top, clean structure for steps and comparisons, and factual accuracy. There is no way to force selection, only to make your page an obvious, safe choice to cite.
Writing for extraction
The most extractable content answers one question decisively and then supports it. Lead with the answer, keep it self-contained enough to stand alone if quoted, and add the depth beneath for readers who want more. This serves both the overview and the human.
Trust signals matter alongside structure. Clear authorship, cited evidence, and an accurate, up-to-date page make a source safer for an engine to summarise. Thin or hyped content is a poor candidate no matter how well it is formatted.
How Kirti approaches this
Kirti is being built to plan and draft content that is a strong candidate for overviews — leading with clear answers, structured for extraction, grounded in the brand’s real expertise — and to track whether the brand appears in these summaries over time.
The agent is in active development and not yet generally available; AI Overviews are also evolving quickly, so treat this as current guidance on a moving surface rather than a fixed formula.
