The original payoff of structured data was cosmetic: stars, prices, and event dates in the results. But the deeper value is comprehension — markup tells a machine what each part of a page is, removing the guesswork of parsing raw HTML and prose.
As engines shift toward answering rather than just listing, that comprehension becomes more valuable. A page whose meaning is spelled out in structured data is easier for a generative engine to interpret correctly and, potentially, to draw on faithfully.
Why clarity aids AI

The same honesty rule applies as ever — markup must match visible, real content. Structured data helps AI only when it is accurate; false or padded markup teaches a machine wrong things about you, which is worse than none at all.
