Zero-click search: when the answer never leaves the results
A zero-click search is one where the person gets what they need directly on the results page — from a snippet, a knowledge panel, or an AI summary — and never clicks through to a site. As these features spread, a growing share of searches end without a visit.

Why zero-click is rising
Search engines increasingly answer simple queries in place: the weather, a conversion, a definition, a quick fact. Featured snippets, knowledge panels, and now AI Overviews all satisfy intent without a click, because that is often what the searcher actually wanted.
This is not a glitch but a direction. Engines are optimising for the searcher’s convenience, and for many queries the fastest good answer is one shown immediately. The result is that impression counts can rise while clicks do not.
What it means for traffic
For content whose value was a quick fact, zero-click can erode the traffic that fact used to earn. If your page existed only to state something a snippet now states for free, the visits it once won may quietly disappear.
But not all queries are so easily answered. Anything requiring depth, comparison, judgement, or action still sends people to sites. The strategic response is to earn visibility for queries where a summary cannot substitute for the full page.
Benefiting even without the click
Being the cited source in a zero-click answer still carries value: brand exposure, authority, and being associated with the right answer in front of the searcher. Presence and recognition are worth something even when the click does not happen.
The healthier play is to combine both. Win the snippet or citation for the quick-answer version, and offer genuine depth beneath it so the searchers who do need more have a reason to click. Chasing only zero-click-proof queries, and answering them fully, is the durable position.
How Kirti approaches this
Kirti is being built to measure not just clicks but presence — whether a brand appears in snippets, panels, and AI answers — and to steer a content plan toward queries where depth still earns a visit, all reviewed by the team before it runs.
The agent is in active development and not yet generally available; zero-click behaviour is also actively shifting as AI answers grow, so this describes a live trend rather than a settled state.
